Awards and Sustainable Energy Use

The school is an Eco School and were presented the Ashden Award for Sustainable Schools 2007 by Al Gore for whole-school commitment to practical energy saving. They received £15,000 - which was spent on a J.P. Joule Positive Energy Garden, with a Labyrinth, made out of Box Hedging [1]

They have received the David Bellamy Conservation Award for Environmental Cleanliness 2005, with £8,000 which was spent on a new wildlife garden, with a Pond, Insect 'hotel' and a Hedgehog 'house'. [2]

They have a Solar PV Array on the roof of the main building, which generates electricity for the school in the summer.

Twin Schools

The school is twinned to Gordon Road Girls' School and Vumokuhle School in Durban, South Africa with the Afritwin link. The schools contact with each other using Skype. [3]

Woodheys has been setting up links with Mary E. Piggot Primary School in Antigua and Barbuda. [4]
